چکیده

Information security is of great importance for modern society with all things connected. Physical unclonable function (PUF) as a promising hardware primitive has been intensively studied information security. However, the widely investigated silicon PUF low entropy vulnerable to various attacks. Herein, we introduce concept bionic optical PUFs inspired from unique biological architectures, and fabricate four types by molding surface micro-nano structures natural plant tissues simple, low-cost, green environmentally friendly manufacturing process. The laser speckle responses are statistically demonstrated be random, unique, unpredictable robust enough cryptographic applications, indicating broad applicability PUFs. On this ground, feasibility implementing primitives in entity authentication encrypted communication experimentally validated, which shows its potential application future

Revisiting Optical Physical Unclonable Functions

We revisit optical physical unclonable functions (PUFs), which were introduced by Pappu et al. [36, 37] in their seminal and historically first publication on PUFs. We start our studies with non-integrated PUFs. We discuss their resilience against machine learning attacks, and systematically study the influence of using more than one laser beam, varied laser diameters, and smaller scatterer siz...

Using Physical Unclonable Functions for Hardware Authentication: A Survey

Physical unclonable functions (PUFs) are drawing a crescent interest in hardware oriented security due to their special characteristics of simplicity and safety. However, their nature as well as early stage of study makes them constitute currently a diverse and non-standardized set for designers. This work tries to establish one organization of existing PUF structures, giving guidelines for the...

Barrel Shifter Physical Unclonable Function Based Encryption

Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) are circuits designed to extract physical randomness from the underlying circuit. This randomness depends on the manufacturing process. It differs for each device enabling chip-level authentication and key generation [1] applications. We present a protocol utilizing a PUF for secure data transmission. Parties each have a PUF used for encryption and decryptio...
